Didn't even feel the needle, by time you get the epidural, your contractions are far more excruciating. Don't worry, it will be a blessing once you get it. I would look forward to the shot, as I know the pain would be again tolerable.

Darlin', how wonderful that you are going to bring a baby into this world! You will be fine.
I've had an epidural LONG ago. There is NO large needle. It is hair-fine and it pricks when they deaden the spot that they are going to place the epidural and that's all there is to it. Remember that it is done behind your back, so you don't even know what is going on. The anesthetist is great at what he's doing, and believe me, he's had PLENTY of experience.
Enjoy your birth experience. Take lotsa pics. Have your Mom with you as well as your husband. I hope you breastfeed, but of course, that's up to you. Hugs to you, new Mom.

I have had the epidural 3 times and I found it very painful...but once the needle is in and the meds are beginning to work it really helped, I personally think it was worth it. Thankfully the doctors try to insert the needle during a contraction so you won't feel it as much. I admit when it came to childbirth I was a big baby lol.

the pain of the epidural is nothing compared to the labour, you won't worry about the pain of the needle, generally they do a local on the back before trying to give you the epidural to numb it a bit.

It wasn't as bad as I thought It would be. I believe that it is all in our mind that scares us the most. If you have 2 tattoos, the epidural pain is less and shorter. I have experienced both.

I have had 2 children. 1 I had an epi for and I still could feel everything. Although when they were doing procedure I was in too much other pain to feel what they were doing. Make sure you decide as soon as possible, as the further along in your labour you are the harder it is to stay still in between contractions long enough for them to put the needle in.
