Jordan is hte better player. Out of all these guys Jordan is a great basketball player, yes he won 6 championships but he also did things that others didn't. Jordan was the defensive player for three-four yrs. He was also scoring champ. He was also Mvp for soo many seasons. He was also Mvp of the finals for i tihhkn each year. Magic is a good gaurd, Bird is the only player i think that gives any competition to my answer. Chamberlain played in a age where he was almost hte tallest from boht teams. Jabbar had limitations. Jordan can shoot, drive, post. He is the only player that can play all 5 positions and play so well that it seems like he is the best at that position. LeBron hasn't done that much yet. Lebron wait a few more years to really see.

The best all around player of all time is Larry Bird. Magic is a close second, followed by Wilt and Bill Russell. I'm not sure I would even put Jordan in my top ten, and Lebron hasn't been around long enough.
No one played the game at the level that Bird did. Ever since college, when he took an otherwise average Indiana State team to a 33-0 record and the NCAA championship, he has been a proven winner.
When he joined the Celtics, he improved them from 29 wins the previous year to 61 wins his rookie season (still a record). He won his first championship in only his second year. The Celtics consistantly won 60+ games in the '80's with Bird.
He could have scored much more had he wanted, but he was all about the team and winning. He made Parish, McHale, and DJ hall of famers, and all others who played with him better.
In comparison, it took Jordan's teams 7 years to win 60 games and a championship. He didn't break .500 until his 4th season. And as far as his championships, he won them in the watered-down '90's, after Bird & Magic were gone. Sure he scored alot of points, but he also took more shots than anyone. I would put Oscar Robertson ahead of him.
Wilt was definitely the most dominant player of all time. No one has ever come close to his scoring and rebounding stats.
But if were talking ALL AROUND, then I'll go with Bird.

Chamberlain, Jabbar, Bird and Magic were all better than Jordan...
Jordan won 6 rings, but so did Jabbar. Jabbar also won 6 MVP awards to Jordan's five.... Chamberlain won four, but he competed head to head with Bill Russell who won five. Russell was also better than Jordan (Russell won 11 championships in his 13 year career, Jordan doesn't come close). Russell was also 10-0 in game 7's during his career. He won 8 straight titles from 59-66, more than Jordan won in his career...Russell also won 3 other titles...he played in 12 finals in his 13 year career, losing only once (because he broke his ankle).
Bird and Magic would have both won more rings if they hadn't run into each other. As it is, Magic won 5 and Bird 3.
Chamberlain averaged 30 points and 23 rebounds a game over his career... and to the idiot who said he did this because he was taller than anyone else (which was not true, btw), where are all the rebounding records of Yao Ming and Zdrunis Ilgauskas? Chamberlain wasn't as tall as either of them...Yao had 4 inches on Wilt, and Ilgauskas is 7'3"... Wilt was NEVER under double figures in rebounds in ANY game of his entire career. Ilgauskas would probably be named player of the week if he ever got 10 rebounds in two straight games...he SUCKS.
Lebron is the least accomplished player in that group, for obvious reasons.
Bill Walton said that Jabbar was "BY FAR the best player he ever played against ... (He) never played against Wilt or Russell, but he did face Jordan, Bird, and Magic, and it was no contest" ("Nothing But Net")
Jordan was certainly the most hyped player in history...that doesn't make him the best on the court though.
People who dismiss Wilt, Jabbar and Russell do so because they never saw them play, ESPN doesn't talk about them, and they're too lazy to learn about the history of the league.

Jordan and Chamberlain. Chamberlain avg. 50 points a game for one season and 20 rebounds a game for another. These records will never be approached.
Jordan due to his all around play. Player of the year, scoring champ, defensive player of the year, clutch player with a boat load of championships.
The best DEFENSIVE player and winner is Bill Russell. He won a championship at every level of basketball he played and was a part of the Celtics dynasty that will never be bested.

I think a lot of weight has to go with Chamberlin and Jabbar for their consistent and effective use of the "hook-shot."
