It depends what kind of crowd it is and how close you are with the people throwing the party. Older crowds tend to stick to the start time as the arrival time. Younger generations seem to think its OK to show up an hour late as long as you have some sort of excuse and bottle of wine or case of beer. If you are good friends with the people throwing the party then it's probably a good idea to get there right at 7 or else call and ask if they would like you to get there early to set up or not. Bottom line... I wouldn't show up before 7 unless you're asked to and I wouldn't show up more than 15 - 30 minutes late.

I would not show up more than 5 minutes before the party started- the host may still be making preparations nad that can be awkward for both parties. I would not arrive more than 10 minutes late for the party- this gives time for people to show up , be let in and get settled- you don't want the host to have to wait on you to get started if there is something planned

Nothing wrong with being the first to arrive. It lets your host know that you appreciate the invitation and looking forward to the evening. If you wanna be a little late, don't make it more than 15 minutes.

About 30 minutes late.

While it is rude to show up too late, it is also rude to show up too early. Ask anyone who has hosted a large party.

I would say it is safe to show up exactly on-time or 15 minutes late depending on the nature of the party.

If it is a dinner party, showing up 90 minutes late misses dessert--the entire party..

If it is an overnight-er, 90 minutes late misses the first movie, first pillow fight, or first stripper--again depending on the nature of the party.

I hope this helps...

No sooner than 7:30. It sucks being the first and having to make small talk.
