If I did something bad that day or hurt someone that day or did something embarrassing, my mind won't let me forget about it. I sometimes even lay awake at night and try to forget about all of those things, but my mind will not let me.

Pain, our brains are geared to take full sensory snap shots in moments of pain, this is to instantly let us know if we face this same danger at some future point whatever sensory stimulus is available
Our minds might try to work past, cover over or forget pain but it is always there

It's usually problems . The mind likes to dwell on negativity too much .

Emotional pain. You can forget physical pain and names and numbers, etc. but emotional pain while can lay dormant, it can and will be triggered back to the surface in an instant.
It's part of our human desire for survival.

Dont quite understand your question, but I link things together. For instance, there is this girl I work with named "Cesli". I finally remembered her name because I linked her name with "Nestle"...as in Nestle Toll House Cookies... Thats how I remember things...linking them to something I know.
