NO. SOMETIMES YOU HAVE TO MAKE SACRIFICES. AS LONG AS YOU ARE STAYING WITH SOMEONE YOU TRUST AND YOU ARE NOT IN DANGER.

Get yourself to The Chicago Reader's web site and search for a roommate before you move: http://classifieds.chicagoreader.com/chicago/Results?section=oid%3A8&

If you're not able to find one without meeting someone in person (a real possibility), your best bet is probably to check out the motels that line North Lincoln Avenue between Bryn Mawr and Peterson. They're among the cheapest places in the city, have daily and weekly rates, and are located in a very safe neighborhood. They're a bit off the beaten path (bus service on Lincoln shuts down by 9 pm most nights), and there's nothing posh about them, but if you need someplace cheap to stay for a short period of time, they'll suffice.

One may stay at an SRO and pay for it yourself if you an afford it. Try a Y or a college with empty dorm space as well.
