Katrina was an example of why welfare is needed and why Socialism is correct and why Capitalism and free markets are a failure wherever they are implimented.

In New Orleans there would be none of the collectivistic regimented evacuation as occurred in Cuba. When an especially powerful hurricane hit that island in 2004, the Castro government, abetted by neighborhood citizen committees and local Communist party cadres, evacuated 1.5 million people, more than 10 percent of the country’s population. The Cubans lost 20,000 homes to that hurricane---but not a single life was lost, a heartening feat that went largely unmentioned in the U.S. press.

It was not until Day Three that the relatively affluent telecasters began to realize that tens of thousands of people had failed to flee because they had nowhere to go and no means of getting there. With hardly any cash at hand or no motor vehicle to call their own, they had to sit tight and hope for the best. In the end, the free market did not work so well for them.

Any city or town in the U.S. would face this same result with the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. The obvious problem was that the Bush administration has looted the American budget so badly, and cut the programs that are set up for disasters like this to the bone. Republican politics were ineffective in an emergency. People died needlessly over the Republican participation in New Orleans. This cost George Bush the most over the Republicans inhumane treatment of people other then them, and you have some right on this page as examples to this type of thinking, with excuses why they failed America.

Katrina is exactly the reason that socialism doesn't work. Why in the world aren't people at least trying to save themselves? Why in the world are they looking for government to save them? Doesn't this tell the everyone that when you depend on government you get crap? For god's sake people, open your eyes! Why in the world were there school busses sitting in parking lots useless because they were flooded? Couldn't they have been used to get people to safety? Why wasn't the city getting people out to safety ? Not only that, why are people building in flood plains anyway? Isn't the government encouraging people to put themselves in harm's way by offering insurance? I mean, come on. I'm really tired of hearing people complain about Katrina when soooo much went wrong. It truly was the perfect storm for government screwing up.

Do you remember Hugo and Andrew? No one gave any of them 2000$ FEMA cards. Nagin's failure to order a mandatory evacuation and Blanco's stubborn refusal of Federal aid were the two main factors that exacerbated the sitiuation in Louisiana. But like anything, the dimocrats had use this as another opportunity to blame Bush. Ask a Hugo or Andrew survivor what they think about the immediate assistance give to Katrina victims.

Wow you must have had an allergy attack. Stop breathing those Mold Spores.

Capitalist had nothing to do with rescuing people from NO they were busy getting Investment Capital for all the new Casinos that will replace the old housing.

Casinos are much better than houses with lower level parking a Casino could withstand several hurricanes.

Why didn't the democracks use public buses to get their constituents out of town? Democracks don't even care for the welfare class, so why do you pretend?

The socialists love flooded buses while the capatilists in TX realize they have an intended use for evacuation.

They had no means of evacuating? LOL! Are New Orleans democrats born without legs?

actually it is a great example why socialism does not work, the people did not know how or did not try to do anythiing to help and save thierself.

And the city which was suppose to take care of the, and even had a plan, and the busses to do so, just did not, the mayor ran and hid,and left his people to suffer.

so obviously people who are on welfare for too long loose their ability to take care of thierself.

They had means and chose not to take advantage of them. In Cuba, the people had no choice...that is the biggest hole in your case.

Because Nagin is an idiot.

Socialism is great in theory, but it can't work with the human race as long as greed exists. And you can't really breed that out of people.
