I felt crummy for days when Kurt Cobain died. It's kind of silly, though, now that I think about it. I didn't even know him.

Was really shocked when John Lennon got shot, too. Cried, even.

And for a few days I actually refused to believe that Marvin Gaye was dead.

Wow, that ages me, wot?

There is 2 for me....Tupac and Steve Irwin. When Tupac died I remember shedding a few tears and feeling said AND mad because he got shot....because of the wording in alot of his music, it was uplifting to me. When Steve Irwin died this past week I felt really really sad because he was a hero to sooo many animals and I, too, am a huge animal lover so there again I felt that I had a common bond with him, even though I never met him. When I see the commercials about him come on the TV I get teary eyed now. Very very sad...I just hate it that he's gone.

Some people think it's silly to get upset over celebrities dying. I'm not one of those people. Lots of folks' lives are touched, affected, or inspired by celebrities that they've never been within a thousand miles of.

That said... Jonathan Brandis. His character in SeaQuest, Lucas Wolenczak, was a huge hero to me when I was a kid. I was The Smart Kid in class, known as a know-it-all, and made fun of mercilessly. That character helped me keep up my studies and not fall to peer pressure to try and be one of the Cool Kids. Thanks to him, I'm in college and on my way to a Ph.D., while all of the Cool Kids I knew in school are working at fast food chains, grocery stores, and repair shops, respectively. I adored him all the way into adulthood, and kept up with his career the whole way.

Brandis killed himself on November 12, 2003. I think I had crying spells for two days, and was upset for a few weeks afterward. I was listening to a particular song when I found out, and still can't stand to hear that song.

Aaliyah...

I couldn't believe it at first... I called my cousins and they didn't heard it yet back than.... So the were shocked as well...
Totally speechless...

I felt that bad and sad that I wrote a poem in memory of her...
There was an address where everyone could send there condolences to it... So I did send my poem to NY USA...

Aaliyah was so talented... One of the best dancers / performers of all time... (my opinion)

I still miss her... Like many others...

You know usually when celebrities die, I'm untouched. But I have to admit that Steve Irwin's death was sad and I was stunned! Even days later I find myself thinking about it and wondering about how his family is holding up. I guess it's because he was such a family man and had his family on his show doing there animal things together, that he just seemed more human and real than most celebrities.

I was in 7th grade when John Lennon was shot. I saw it on the news before I went to school. I was super upset but did not cry.

I was in high school when the space shuttle with the teacher on it exploded. Alot of girls st school cried about. I thought it was bizarre. I asked this one girl who died and she didn't even know the lady's name. I though they were just doing for attention.

I was teaching 6th grade in Houston, Texas when Selena got shot. It was crazy. Many of my students had just seen her perform live at the Texas Livestock Show and Rodeo. They LOVED Selena. Kids were upset all day. I couldn't even teach. I just let them talk it out. They drew pictures of her and wrote poems and sang some of her songs. It was really sad, but I was glad to give them time to express their feelings of grief.

I may be telling my age here but yes. Red Skelton is probably the one actor/comedian that I really felt sad about loosing. I'm not a star chaser but he is the one star I would have loved to had met and shook hands with.

Rock Hudson
Freddie Mercury

I was sad that they felt the need to lie about their sexualities until they were dead and that the fact they died of AIDS would overshadow their talent and work
