A love of reading and a constant supply of books. No matter what my mood is I can find something to read that I can say, "see I was right" or will make me feel better. When relationships sour or confuse me, there's always a book to explain it, get over it, or make it better--and sometimes even to celebrate it. I don't have the means or health to travel like I would like to, so I can read at my leisure about those places and narrow down the possibilities to places that I can get to. So much has happened in the world that I didn't get to experience. I can live vicariously through memoirs/historical fiction & non-fiction. I've found books on subjects I never thought I'd be interested in, but all it took was a mere suggestion on the dust jacket or a quotation randomly read and there's a whole new world.
I think I'm a better person for it. I think I can appreciate my world more. I may not like the people in my world any better than I did before, but at least I know my motives and theirs for the behaviors we exhibit.
It would have been nice to say family or something cozily heartfelt like that. I know my answer may seem selfish or self-absorbed. But, husbands leave, children grow up to have families of their own, and only stay on the periphery of yours. I can keep grandkids close to me by introducing them to classics and my personal favorite books so they'll stay with me until they're ready to discover their own world.
Deep down I would have like to say religion, but since I'm sort of on the outs with the Heavenly Hierarchy, I'll settle for saying faith--which I can read about. Maybe it'll be enough to bring me back to the Church's folds.
And you know what else is the best part of having reading in my life--it's made me want to write. It makes me think that perhaps someday I'll open a whole new world for someone I don't know and will never meet, but who is searching for that part of themselves.

"Hi alanstryke!
Gosh, I've been extremely lucky to get this far. There are lots of things that have been very good in my life.
Considering the most important ones, I have to admit the "birth of my son" was the best thing that ever happened to me.
I sincerely hope you too have some great things happen!"

........so far, its health. I step outside of my house...pretty much everyday. I still have 10 fingers and 10 toes.
Somebody, somewhere has left their house this morning, and experienced a life changing event. Life has been rough, but I'm still alive and healthy.
I'm still looking for better though.....

That's a tough one.
I am glad I got married. Having a lot of sisters is fun now that I am older.
