Do you know what this term means? I know all the old wise men use it training their pupils in various ancient arts--what's it really mean and how did it come about?
If you could tell me all that you know, that'd be great!

I thought it was just a term the writers came up with for the TV series Kung Fu with David Carradine. Seems to be a catch all phrase that caught on since then.

It comes from the Kung Fu series. The master gave this nickname to his student.

He gave him this nickname because when they were training he proved you don't need to see to be aware of things. There was a grasshopper by the students foot. The master knew it was there without seeing it even though it made no sound. The name just stuck.
