as much as these people would like to believe, the lumina is not at all like the malibu. luminas were good cars, and good vans, they ran a long time.

Wow...I was not aware of this...I thought it was a smooth car.
I just bought a 99 Carlo and know that a lot of the parts from a Lumina are interchangeable with a Montie Carlo, thought this was OK because when I hit a deer with the Carlo it would cost less to fix being that the replacement parts are more abundant...less costly. I have no idea why the stopped making the Lumina and am sorry that I cannot answer your question just thought I would insert my input Thanks..I will check into this...

Luminas have always been good cars but they were never quite good enough to be world-class against their competitors. Product development at GM is so painfully slow, that by the time a new car is introduced, it is already hopelessly outdated. GM cars are still usually 5-10 years behind the import brands, so the only people interested in them are rental fleets who want to buy thousands of cars at a time for dirt cheap.

My dad had a GM dealership in IA and they had trouble selling the lumina's towards then end of theier run. Chevy just recycled the Impala name for their fullsize car. The Impala name sold better than Lumina. It's just marketing.

They didn't. It's now called a Malibu, a Monte Carlo, and an Impala.
Same car re skinned and called something else.
