There's a song on the Dixie Chick's album "Home" called "Godspeed (Sweet Dreams)". It's a lullaby specifically for a son, and it's so sweet. It's also not very country.

Well, this isn't an African song, but when my son was little, I could never sing that 'Rockabye baby' song to him because for Lord sake, the baby falls out of the tree! So, I changed it to;
Rockabye baby, in the tree top
When the wind blows, the cradle will rock.
When the bough breaks, the cradle will fall...
and Mommy will catch you, cradle and all.
LOL! I know...what a goober.

I changed the words on the Rock a bye baby song too, to the same words she used. and for the same reason. Mommy will catch you cradle and all. He used to ask me to sing it when he could talk.

I have a 4 yo who likes to sing to her 4 week old sister with me. We sing the songs my 4 yo knows. We sing "Row Row Row Your Boat", the alphabet song, a song from the show "Ni-Hao Kai-Lan", "Frosty the Snowman", "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star", as well as a few others.
