some dsl services will provide "naked dsl" (no analog phone needed)
most 'baby bell' types won't.

Yes you need to have a phone line for DSL, depending upon which service you get depends on whether or not you can pay for the two as one package. I'm pretty sure you can do that with SBC. I'm not sure about the others.

In order to get DSL, you do need a phone line.
If you do not have an existing phone line, they will have to install one for DSL, even if you do not subscribe to telephone service.
Just curious, how do you currently access if you don't have high-speed or dial up?
