This eventually led to the dismantling of the Berlin Wall which began on June 13,1990.

I think the Nightmare Before Christmas came out in 1993. I wouldn't call that special but that was a cool movie! Reggie Jackson was put in to the Hall of fame and I think that year marked the first time that Martin Luther King day was observed in all 50 states. You might want to look that up though.

The Berlin Wall came down, which people of my generation never thought would ever happen. It divided Germany into East Germany (communist) and West Germany (democratic), and every country east of the wall was under Soviet Russia's control, with the exception of China, which is communist anyway. Thousands of people died trying to get past the wall.

First civillian into space , teacher Kristi McCaulife (I believe that is how you spell her name), assigned to be part of the flight crew of Space Shuttle Challenger In 1985.

Space Shuttle Challenger exploded shortly after lift off in 1986.

the berlin wall came down in 1989. also the 80's is when aids became an epidemic althought it was considered taboo, crack hit the streets, homosexuality became more widespread, but also taboo.
