Bush seems keen on a perpetual unending war- a war to 'kill all the terrorists'. A war on terror is akin to a war on evil- its not a war against specific people, but rather against a concept. As the US is a foreign power occupying Iraq, its only natural the locals would want to fight back agains the invaders. When will this war be over?Do you want this war to last for deacades?

The "War on Terror" is the US government's thinly veiled excuse for constructing a classic empire, in the model of Rome or Britain. Two years into the crusade, it's clear this is a mistake: the Bush gang doesn't have the stick-to-it-ness to successfully occupy one country, let alone a dozen. Bush and the gang do, however, have the hustle of good marketers, and they know how to contract out. What Bush has created in the WoT is less a "doctrine" for world domination than an easy-to-assemble toolkit for any mini-empire looking to get rid of the opposition and expand its power.
The War on Terror was never a war in the traditional sense. It is, instead, a kind of brand, an idea that can be easily franchised by any government in the market for an all-purpose opposition cleanser. We already know that the WoT works on domestic groups that use terrorist tactics such as the Armed Revolutionary Forces of Colombia (Farc). But that's only its most basic application. WoT can be used on any liberation or opposition movement. It can also be applied liberally on unwanted immigrants, pesky human rights activists and even on hard-to-get-out investigative journalists.

The Israeli prime minister, Ariel Sharon, was the first to adopt Bush's franchise, parroting the White House's pledges to "pull up these wild plants by the root, smash their infrastructure" as he sent bulldozers into the occupied territories to uproot olive trees and tanks to raze civilian homes. It soon included human rights observers who were bearing witness to the attacks, as well as aid workers and journalists.

There is no end to the War on Terror. That's why they love it so much. The Cold War wasn't really supposed to end. Nobody saw the collapse of the Wall and the Soviets falling down on the job like that. The world was such a simple place when the US and the Soviet Union basically ran the joint. Now we got terrorists messing with both of us. This never would have happened during the Cold War. The Soviets always kept those crazy people under control.

Iraq is not part of the War on Terror. If some foreign power invaded my country, I'd be fighting 'em too.

Every time the news shows American soldiers breaking into an Iraqi house in the middle of the night, I just cringe. You know the British did this to us and we fought for 12 years until we finally got them out of our country. Can we expect less from the Iraqis...

The war on terror will never be won. The GOP cannot afford to "win" the war on terror. Who else would we have left to hate then? The collapse of the Soviet Union pushed the defense industry into the economic abyss. The arms race was over and the projects were killed off left and right. The (largely) fictional war on terror was the best thing for them since the soviets tested their first nuclear weapon back in 1949. Business picket up after 9/11 and they don't want that to stop.

Gore Vidal wrote a great book about the dependency of the industrial-defense complex on the ongoing international conflicts. The book is called "Perpetual war for perpetual peace". It gives a deep insight into the mechanics, necessities and interactions between our "elected" officials and the defense industry.

The war on terror is not a war. It never was. What could have been a police action to catch a terrorist was stylized to be a war, because war sells better on T.V. and allows the puppetdent to grandstand and be celebrated as the warrior he should have been during the Vietnam years, when he preferred to fail in the Champagne squadron of the TANG.

It is deplorable, disgusting and inhumane what is happening to us and with us. US... the people.

Obviously this was will never be over. It is like the War on Drugs or the War on Poverty, which we are still fighting. You cannot fight against an idea and win. It is impossible to win a war on terror. What? Are we going to kill all the terrorists? Sounds unrealistic and would be expensive. We need to start focusing on the terror in our own country, such as the lack of healthcare and the gradual disappearance of our civil liberties.

News Flash! You can't win the war on terror because there will always be terrorists. They are like viruses. You find a way to alleviate one and then an even worse one comes along.

Bush knows this and uses it to his advantage. 9/11 brought him glory.

There is no end in sight. Right now, as it stands we are all damned and this whole thing bites.

It will be over when multi-national corporations have complete and total access to all markets in the world, the U.S. taxpayer is fully consumed with paying for the security of these same corporations, and a Republican has been selected "president for life."

Or until Democrats regain control.
