Mine is 5 years. I'm afraid there are already bugs and mites living in it. No, nothing bites me yet.. I hope so.

Some mattresses last 15 or 20 years, some only last five or six. Our mattress is only four years old but we are thinking of getting a new one.
You need to vaccum the mattress weekly to suck up dead skin cells and bed mites.
Change your sheets every few days too. When you wash the sheets do it in warm or hot water too.

When we bought our mattress, my husband said get a good one, as it's 1/3 of our lives. That was 1978, and it's still fine. I am allergic to dust mites, so we put a mite-proof casing over it about ten years ago, and that may have helped it last longer.

Mites are everywhere, alas, and there is no way to totally avoid them - do be sure and vaccum the mattress often.

Honestly, there are probably mites in it within a couple of weeks of buying it. It sounds really gross, but yeah.

If you turn your mattress every couple of months, you can probably get many years of use out of it. I tend to use a mattress until it starts to break down (getting a little ditch where the person sleeps). You can avoid it breaking down it you turn it often. Turn it a different way each time, though- over one side to the other one month, top to bottom the next, then repeat to keep wearing it evenly.

Mattresses tend to last about 6-8 years depending on the quality - Also depends on if you use a mattress pad or protector on it.

IF YOU THINK YOU HAVE BUGS YOU WILL OBVIOUSLY WANT TO GET RID OF IT. BUT BEFORE DOING THAT AND POSSIBLY WASTING MONEY YOU COULD CALL OR GO TO YOUR NEAREST BED DEALER AND ASK PRO'S FOR ADVICE ABOUT IT. OR EVEN ASK YOUR EXTENSION AGENT ABOUT THE BUGS. THEY COULD TELL YOU HOW TO CHECK FOR LITTLE BUGS YOU MIGHT NOT BE ABLE TO SEE OR ARE EMBEDDED IN THE MATTRESS.

i have a futon-thing
but i keep it on the floor
its about 4 now and its getting flat as hell!

more than 10 years, you should replace it
but don't worry about bugs,
yes they are there, but they're harmless
you cant even see them

as long as its not "itchy"
they aren't bad

Mine is 3 months old....and as silly as it sounds, you need to vacuum your bed....that sucks all the bed bugs and shed skin cells up...change your linens often too
