Doe anybody know what the deal is with baseball players pulling their back pockets out? Intentionally?

I'd say within the last two years I've noticed a trend, if you will, that baseball players are seemingly intentionally pulling their back pockets out when they are on offense. Naturally I thought, maybe when they pulled their batting glove(s) out their pocket, but then I started noticing players who don't wear gloves having the same fashion faux pas.

Perhaps it's a sign of some sort. I'll have to start noticing whether it's a particular regional or ethnicity thing.

If somebody knows, please help!

It is a superstitious thing. It's called "having your blinker out". Usually its the right blinker. I didn't know that until I played college ball and we used that to rally. Also a "rally toad" is a good rally method.

Baseball players put all kinds of things in their back pockets, not just batting gloves, anything from gum to sunflower seeds to chewing tobacco. All these things become uncomfortable when trying to hit a 95mph fastball. They are definitely not trying to start any trends, that's the last thing baseball players are thinking about.

I think when they pull out their glove it just kinda comes out with it...and it's unnoticable to everyone who's in the game because they are too busy playing ball to worry about fashion trends and statements. :)

i play high school baseball and by pulling your pocket out it keeps dirt from going into it and it also distracts the batter buy it is illegal for the pitcher to do so
