Beginning March 7, 2006, Rancid played several acoustic sets as part of Hellcat Records' Hellcat Nights concert series at The Echo. This was their first time playing together since the hiatus of Tim Armstrong's side project The Transplants. On April 13, 2006, Rancid also announced plans for a worldwide tour beginning in July 2006 and the release of a DVD compiling 31 of their music videos, as well as a tentative release date of Spring 2007 for a new, as-of-yet-unamed studio album. Armstrong recently announced plans for his first-ever solo album, A Poet's Life, will be available for free internet downloading, starting October 7th, 2006. [2]

On August 31st, guitarist Lars Frederiksen collapsed on stage on their third Montreal date. The band cancelled four shows, but has provided no word on the cause of the collapse.

September 6th: Eye witness reports of the Lars Frederiksen collapsing incident said that after waiting for about 20 minutes, Tim Armstrong (vocals/guitar) and Matt Freeman (vocals/bass guitar) came out and reported to the Montreal audience that Lars had suffered a seizure on stage and had been rushed to the local hospital. No word yet on how Lars has been recovering but Rancid has posted the rescheduled dates on it's official website.
