The best way would be to sit doewn with your mom when it starts, and just tell her. She will most likely be very supportive and happy that you told her insead of hiding it. She will probably also ask you if you prefer pads or tampons, and then explain how to use both. Moms are a great resource for this type of thing. My mom was great when I started...and that was 12 years ago.

It's just a part of growing up. Your mom has gone through the same thing that you are going through now. You need to be open and honest with your mom about this, and about all the things that you will be experiencing in the next few years. Just tell her.

Just tell your mom when you get it. Trust me, she will understand. She went through the same awkward time in her life. If you're worried about having the proper items, talk to her ahead of time and you guys can discuss what kind of products you should and/or would like to use. Then she can purchase them in advance and there won't be any "emergency" runs to the store.

I told my mom by adding "pads" to the shopping list that day. I was only living with my mother at the time, dad had moved out. It wasn't the big hoopla you sometimes hear about (Becoming a Woman parties and such), but you can bet that by the end of the week, everyone I hadn't told (which was in fact everyone buy my mother) knew about it.

Use the old, "Hey mom, I have a friend who is having difficulty talking to her mom about her period, what would you suggest?" line. It works everytime. Not that parents are dumb, we just know that it is awkward.

You have to tell her things like that! I'm pretty sure she'll get suspicious when you steal or have to buy your own pads/tampons. She probably does your laundry too, so she may already know. It is embarassing to talk about, but it will be easier on you to tell her (rather than dad).

hmm, when I started mine I had to call my mom at work and ask her about pads. My mom had talked to me about it for a while and we went through the feelings and changes in our bodies so I knew ahead of time. Why don't you talk to your mom one-on-one and explain your concerns with her.
