It is a selfish thing to do. Even without all of the problems you mentioned, most people today who have kids are not financially nor emotionally ready to take on the commitment of parenthood. Look at how all their little brats run wild these days... screaming in restaurants and on planes, ramming into people with those damn skate shoes, and 8 year old girls dressed like 45 year old whores. It's awful.

Well, regarding your question: I think that our instincts mostly supersede our thinking! Thus, we give birth most of the times because we are guided by instinct and social "order"! Further, our excuse is that we and our children will make a better world!

If you're doing it just to have a child because you want one and you don't care about the child, then yes, but if you want a good life for the child, then it's not.
