They spray the chemical paint that will turn into a Teflon coating into a clean pan. Then they bake the pan in an industrial oven. The resulting coating is then non-stick. It wasn't before the baking.

OK, the previous replies seem to indicate that this question has been put a number of times. I'm not looking back to check but let's get something straight.. You said that nothing sticks to Teflon but nothing could be further from the truth.

When you put your bacon into the frying pan (or a mushroom if your a veggie) it immediately sticks to the top layer of the Teflon. This layer then slides over the rest of the Teflon . So, when you reove your bacon or mushroom It has a layer of Teflon attached which is one molecule thick.

What happens when this reaches your stomach? Well, that is another question.

They rough up the material they spray the Teflon on. Once the Teflon hardens, nothing can stick to it, but while it's still liquid, it will stick to the metal.

Pores are etched into the surface of the pan, and when the Teflon is applied it flows into these pores. Once the Teflon hardens its stuck.
