Assume that you have recently finished your first year as mayor of your city. At the end of the year there is $1 Million dollars left in the budget. You must spend this money within your community. What would you spend it on and why??

yep, usually infrastructure is the biggest need in most communities. If the town looks nice and it's easy to get around, the roads are good, so on and so forth, then people will be happy where they live, and they won't be looking for another, nicer place to live. Also making sure your citizens have things to do. you don't want them getting in the car and going to another town to spend their money, you want them to stay home and spend money in your town to build tax revenues.
Another thing would be to make sure your rec center is up to date. Top notch little league fields, football, soccer and so on make a huge difference. Do you know how many people participate in that stuff? Also making sure you have a variety of programs through parks and rec. People really like it when their community offers mini camps during school breaks, and things like that.
Our rec center has a fitness center for adults, which has increased activity at our rec center tremendously.
As mayor, you can never go wrong suggesting ways to make your citizens feel like they have the best town around.

Assess the social, educational, and economic needs of the community, and then spend the money developing that aspect of the communitylii

I would ensure that day care centres have sufficient funding to enable the users have a better quality of day care.
I would also like to see some money spent on encouraging the youth to be involved in their community.
I would for sure spend some money on decent street lighting

homeless and animal shelters. Because it is sad to see so many homeless people and animals wandering the street. One shelter is not enough for all the homeless.
