The sign read Hollywoodland from 1923-1949, when the City bought it. George Reeves died in 1959...10 years later and at a time when the sign read "Hollywood".

It could be a logistical error as you point out or it could be the the movie's title had no correlation to the sign. It may just intend to show the decadence and desperation in the land of Hollywood.

I thought the same thing, I even said so to my girlfriend as we walked into the theater. I think they went with that title to suggest that Hollywood was its own world, the land od Hollywood, with it's own rules and Reeves got caught up in that universe, which led to his death.

cause it envokes an old-fashoned theme to the movie (which i believe the producer wanted by the way some of the scenes look)
think about it a movie simply called Hollywood sound glitzy and you think of that retarded song

i believe that if he died in 1959, he must have been alive during the time the hollywoodland sign was up..
