Here’s what’s going on, sometimes, for no apparent reason, my car wont start. I turn the key, I hear the fuel pump engage, all the lights are on but it just wont start. I had the ignition switch taken out previously and was going to replace it as I was having this problem before but the auto parts guy inspected it and stated it was in perfect condition and just suggested I clean it which I did. Had it placed back into the vehicle and it worked fine until yesterday. I was at the gas station and turned the key and it just wouldn’t turn on. Kept turning the key back and forth and on one of the tries it started . Turned it off at my house, tried to start it and nothing. I just can’t figure it out. I mean, If it was the battery, it would have never started. Same thing goes for the starter. Any Ideas??

It could be the starter, its not unheard of for them to work intermittently when they are going bad. Could be the selenoid too. If it wont start, you can have someone help you start it, have one person hold the key in the start position, and have you or the other person go under the car and smack the starter with a hammer. It should start unless the starter is completely dead.

Scanner won't help you here. it only deals with the PCM.
It IS conceivable that there is a theft deterrent interrupt.
But I think it is more than likely one of the following---
1) The ignition switch has an intermittent contact.
2) The neutral safety switch has failed, or the shifter isn't where it has to be for contact.
3) The starter has begun to fail. The solenoid has a very heavy-duty switch contact set that do fail , and therefore cannot supply current to the starter. The starter motor is designed so that there may be a bad segment in the armature, and until the starter gets past that bad spot, it will not make a circuit.
There are ways to trouble-shoot this, but it requires some simple equipment and techniques.

Good Luck
