Most people on the football team for my school can't do a 8 minute mile run whereas, for cross country, we aim for maybe a 7 minute mile pace for all 3 miles, plus sprinting for the last .25 mile. Sometimes the cross country team goes in the weight room, because the stronger our bodies are, the faster we'll be. We do a LOT of core too. We only run 3 miles for competitions but for practice, we do hill repeats and also 8 mile runs. So personally, I think cross country's harder.

Depends. Cross Country might be looked as a harder sport because not many people have the stamina to deal with it, whereas anybody can play football. But with football, the injuries and rugged physical nature can be seem as tougher than a cross country runner who doesn't have to worry about getting their *** knocked the f*** out.

Football Is physical and when I played you had to not just develop your running but your body had to be able to take a hit a cross country runner does not have to do this although many football players, backs like Walter Peyton did a whole lot of running up and down the stadium .
He ran sideways backwards etc.Cross country does not have to prepare for full contact

Why compare apples and oranges?
But to answer your question, I would have to side with football because of the total conditioning football players have to go through.
Cross Country is about endurance.
Football is more like sprinting combined with boxing.

I would say football since the players have people blocking and tackling them while they're running. I can tell you from experience that cross country's no walk in the park though, especially when there's a huge hill.

well in cross country you have to run a lot, so you have to be able to handle it.
and in football you run a lot too but there is a greater chance of injury.

depends on what you like, some people like running for miles so they wouldn't think cross country is hard, but i know that after going 3 hours full contact its a ***** having to run sprints right after
