The other day I read a question from a women asking if she was the typical female. All the men were drooling over her description. She sounded really thin to me, so I went on one of those body mass, ideal weight sights and one thing went to another. I came across a site that said some 80% of women have a distorted body image. Meaning they see themselves bigger than they actually are. What do you think? Does 80% seem high, low or about right? And do you think the media helps people with these distortions? (Models, actresses)

I think it would be higher than 80%. Even my 8 year old is having issues. It is really sad that girls have to deal with this. I wish there were more normal role models for them.

Hi 80% sounds right i suppose if they actually admit they feel they look bigger than they are. Im one of them, i get told i am fine but see my self as fat and im in my bmi range. The media doesnt help at all, i was watching a TV programme last night about celebs and they get air brushed all the time to make them look skinny or change something about themselves, it actually showed someone being air brushed, it was a normal weight girl and they air brush one of her legs and her waste, her waist was taken in dead thin, and made her legs thin and when compared to the other it was amazing how much they took off. So celebs are not perfect or beautiful in real life, its just that we are stupid enought to believe it. Its like men go mad over a really skinny girl thats dead bonny and not an ounce of fat anywhere, when you tell them its air brushed to high heaven, and they dont really look like that but men dont believe it and this is what there ideal woman should be like in there heads. and they wont go for anything bigger than the stick they are. So the media doesnt help at all, it ruins peoples lives. I bet before this air brush thing came out, no one was obsessed with there weight.

i think it's higher than 80% because let's face it: the media bombards us with inhumanly skinny and beautiful (physically) women. barbie dolls, magazines, tvs, etc....
