One way to keep it under control is to NOT resort to name calling. Name calling is ONLY hurtful, and does not have any place in an argument. The other way to control it is to discuss the issue of arguing when youre both calm. Agree together to certain rules.
Example:
1. No name calling. If someone uses a name during an argument, the other person leaves and the argument ends until BOTH people are willing to start again.
2. Each person takes turns making his point, and the other person says NOTHING until the first person is FINISHED with his/her point.
3. No yelling! As soon as yelling starts, the argument ends and there is silence until BOTH people are willing to start again without yelling.
4. LISTEN to each other.
5. ALWAYS obey the rules. If you break them, the argument ENDS until both people agree to start again.

name calling, or arguments (heated).

There should be respect on both sides not criticism or animosity.
I say look for a better gentleman that can TALK to you instead of put you down.

Don't take low blows at one another. I know when two people that close to each other seem to know how to push buttons and hit touchy situations. You can cool the fight by saying that you don't want to talk to each other like that, and to try again once both of your minds are clear and there isn't that built up emotional stress.

It's this simple....give him your opinion...tell him it is the way it is and if he don't like it...he knows where the door is :)
