I thought he was an interesting character, for example-
1. he couldn't be defeated the same way twice
2. he kick the crap out of Supes without using Kryptonite
3. He was a mean looking mother, maybe the most sinister looking villain that the creative team made for a long time.

its a long story but heres a summary
he gets some new intelligence then he goes to fight superman again and starts to have feelings of love compassion and kindness. Doomsday found superman almost dead and actually helps superman(who didnt see that coming) again gog army superman dies which causes thw future to diverge and doomsday is known as one of the earth's greatest heros. He continues to fight the army of gog. Later on gog offers doomsday to go back in time and save superman but he would become a monster again

Doomsday was last seen during the Battle of Metropolis during the Infinite Crisis event. He was defeated by the Superman and Superman-2. This was a few months ago and DC has yet to reveal what happened to Doomday after Infinte Crisis, but he does have a habbit of returning from the dead so no doubt we'll see him again.

He got beat up by both the Golden and Modern Age Supermen in the "Infinite Crisis" miniseries but I know he recently turned up (or DID he ?) in the "All Star Superman" series, though he was really Jimmy Olsen...
