It was definitely Neville Chamberlain, British Prime Minister just before the Second World War. People hear any profound-sounding quote attributed to a British prime minister about war and automatically think 'Churchill'. They're wrong, and so was Chamberlain.

Well he may have spoken about peace as he waived a piece of paper signed by Hitler but it was anything but...... a very short while later we had declared war on Germany for illegally invading Poland. It was of course Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain. He resigned shortly afterwards and Winston Churchill became P.M.

Neville Chamberlain. He so wanted to believe that Hitler and Mussolini would behave themselves.

He was wrong and every time somebody suggests using diplomacy, Neville Chamberlain is brought up to remind us that sometimes you can't use diplomacy to ensure peace.

I think we may have a similar situation with Iran. Their whack job of a leader seems to want a war. Why is anybody's guess. Maybe Iranians are just the dumbest people on the planet.
