hamsters with longer tails. they are fatter and more compact than rats.

Mine just looked like a gerbil, perhaps the light coloured ones look a bit ratty, but mine was completely black and could never have been mistaken for a hamster or a rat.

i would say they look more like mice than hamsters or rats. all though they are called the dessert rat. so who knows.

more like rats apart from being smaller...hamsters look like qute mini teddy bears ...furry and cuddly and are slow movers ...gerbils are fast and have smooth ruff coats

Kind of a cross between both - quite cute really. I use to have one called twinkle when I was a kid. She impaled herself on the spike where her wheel once was - I was devestated. The end
