I had to buy another laptop when my girlfriend broke the LCD screen on my last one. I need my files and programs from broken the laptop. Is there a program or service where I can do this? Local companies want to charge anywhere from $65 to $150 for the service. Can I do it myself for cheaper?

Why did she break it? Or was it an accident?!

There are several ways to do it. Data transfer cables, attach an external monitor to the old machine and burn cd's/dvd's (or send the files over the internet to your own email or network the machines and enable file sharing), remove the hard drive from the old machine and install it in an external case that you can hook up to the new machine (you could then use the external drive for future backups, too.) Probably other ways that I didn't think of.

Definitely can do it yourself cheaper.
All you will need is to buy a cable. Don't buy the cable at Radio Shack. They charge around $40 for it and you can get one much cheaper online or at a local computer store.
XP has a copy PC to PC utility built into it. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to find it by searching XP Help and Support.
I'm sure someone here will find it for you. I will keep trying and will edit this if I find it.
