The skin is a major body organ, though not seen as such as it appears to be just an outer surface. It is an organ of elimination, so toxins in the body directly affect the appearance of the skin.

Avoid alcohol, cigarettes, tea, coffee, fizzy sugary drinks, sugar, fatty foods, e-numbers, and processed foods in general. Read up on diet and nutrition and make sure you eat with your health as the first consideration, before convenience, taste, and fashion.

Keep your skin hydrated, as others have advised, by drinking plenty of fluids - water being the best.

Avoid over exposure to the sun, though exposure to light and air is natural and good for your skin.

Do not use an old fashioned CRT monitor on your computer as these ionise your face, making it like a magnet to dust.

Be very careful in your choice of cosmetics, cleansers, and lotions, as the manufacture of these is largely unregulated, and most contain toxic ingredients, which are absorbed through your skin. Don't use soap, and, in shower-gels, and shampoos, look-out for Sodium Laurel Sulphate, a cheap degreasing agent, which is especially bad.

If you do improve your diet, expect your skin to actually get worse for a while during the de-tox period.
