I know this is probably a stupid question for some people but since i've never been pregnant before I really want to know. When you say how many weeks pregnant you are do you go from LMP (last monthly period) or date of conception. I am getting so many mixed answers when I look it up online. August 1st was my LMP and conception was the 18th so how many weeks along am I? please be nice about this question. I am 22 not a child and am new to this whole thing! Honest thoughtful answers are always nice.

Add two weeks to your date of conception. I thought it was strange, too. But, that is how it works. The best website I found when I was pregnant was www.babycenter.com

some drs goes from lmp, and some go from date of conception, however, I always go from date of conception since my periods are irregular and I would have been 3 months along when I was only 1 month... that is my personal experience though.

the best way to find out though is arund 20 weeks when they do an ultrasound and they can measure the baby inside.

going from your information, you are about 4 weeks along. it is about a 3 week difference, no matter which date you go from.

I hope this helps, even just a little. And congrats too! pregnancy is wonderful, and if you have any questions, feel free to contact me.

P.S. I know how military doctors are. they also wait until it is absolutely necessary before you are seen. especially if there is no OB at the base clinic...I had to be referred off base and they wouldn't see me til past 20 weeks. Good luck with that one, and I wish you well.

I'm a RN on the OB floor....they will go with the LMP since the conception date is different with every pregnancy....anytime you go to the doctor they will as you your last missed period and give you a EDD(estimated due date) 40 weeks from that date...you you will be considered 1 month 8 days today...Congrats on the baby!

Most doctors go from the date of your LMP. More specificly, the first DAY of your last menstrual period. See, I started my last period on feb. 16th. Really late, but it was a period. Sometime in early March is when I feel I conceived. The doctor went by the first date of my last period and come up with november 24th, the day after thanksgiving. Most doctors do go by the first day of your last period. Congrats on the new baby!!!

Always from the LMP. That is how all doctors calculate your due date. I am pregnant too and My LMP was July 18th that makes me almost 8 weeks.

The doctor estimates your due date from the 1st day of your last period. This works fine unless your periods are not regular. Otherwise they will give you an estimate by how large your uterus is, ultrasound, or even by how much pregnancy hormone is present in your blood.

Most pregnancies last 40-42 weeks

You know it's REALLY hard to be sure without an ultrasound.

See if your doctor will give you an early ultrasound so they can tell you for sure... And, then they will know how far along you are for later when you can take special tests for defects at about the 16th week. If you don't really know how far you are at that point (based on your guess or estimating), your results could look off... And you will really want to know so you can track your baby's development.

My doctor did this for me when I was 12 weeks along...

This always confused me too. The doctors basically use the first day of your last period as the first day of your pregnancy (or at least that is how I've come to understand it.) With my first baby we we so confused because we thought I had had a period and taken clomid while pregnant. No one has ever clearly explained it to me, but from my calculations they must use the first day of your last period as the first day of your pregnancy.

They usually go from the first day of your last period. your conception date is two weeks later. That's why your due date can be two weeks off in either direction.

My doctor gave me from the time of my last period. I argued with him over this because I wasn't pregnant yet and it didn't make any sense to me but, he said that's how they do it. So, I would say from that , that you are almost 6 weeks. Congratulations on the pregnancy and my prayers are with you for a healthy baby!
