Any ideas on software or how to tweak, I have only noticed from using utorrent that this is hapenning, and having looked at most websites they don't really offer much help on how to reverse this.

Maybe you haven't followed the "80% rule"? Because the BitTorrent protocol puts a lot of demands on your upstream bandwidth as your downstream, your upstream can get swamped solely uploading bits of the file to other people. If this happens then your computer doesn't get a chance to make any requests to other users for file pieces you need because it's too busy uploading stuff to other people. Due to this, it's recommended that you limit the amount of your upstream bandwidth your BT client (uTorrent in this case) is allowed to use to about 80% of your maximum upstream bandwidth. And bear in mind that uTorrent talks about bandwidth in terms of kilobytes, not the kilobits that your ISP will quote you for such things.

So, let's say your upstream bandwidth is 256Kbps (which is standard in the UK for instance, no matter what your download speed is). 256Kbps/8 = 32KBps and 80% of that is 25 so that's the value you limit in uTorrent. To implement that limit in uTorrent:

- Select the Options->Preferences menu option.
- Go to the Connection section.
- Enter your 80% value in the "Global Maximum Upload Rate" box and you're done.

If any of that doesn't make any sense you can always send me a message through the Yahoo Answers site.

That's not unusual with torrents due to the way that they work. Check your default settings though, you may have things backwards.
