This is of course quite debatable.
But, I think the answer is yes. The simple fact is that Kobe made the 2005 Lakers a half-decent team (45-37), with little help. Without him, Bill Simmons of ESPN said they would probably be a 20 win team at best and I'd have to agree.
He put up 35 (!) points per game, 4.5 assists and 5 rebounds on a team whose third best player wouldn't start on half the NBA teams in the league.
And, it's tough to argue with his 80 point game. I never would have imagined someone could put up that many points this day and age as a guard.
Dwayne Wade and Lebron James are right there as well. But for now, I'd have to say Kobe is in fact the best in the world.

Kobe is the best. He is he best. Look at the stuff he has to do. don't argue Wade and Kobe, Wade had Shaq to win, well so did Kobe but he wasn't the best then! But Now he is. He is just unstoppable. Lebron plays in a division where a team over 500 should make the playoffs. Kobe plays in a division where a team over 500 will miss the playoffs. So for him to take his team to the 8th spot and go 7 games against phx thats a lot. Ohh don't forget that about half of their losses were 5 pts or less. That happens to first timers. But next season thats coming up, he's going to have better team chemistry and players are going to b more confident and it'll b better. Oh yeah. and think bout 81 pts in a game, who cares if its the Raptors, 81 pts.. Jordan scored 63 in two overtimes. He outscored Dallas( the west. conf champ) at the end of the thirrd quarter all by himself! so comon give him the credit. Peopel call him a ball hog, but is there anyone he can pass to that can really score? did u did u not see the game 7 versus phx? He passed it soo much they couldn't score, if he wished he could've done stuff. Rather he lost ppl saying Kobe didn't do anything, then possible losing Kobe ball hogged he sohuld've passed it and they would have won. No doubt he is the best in our time right now. Lebron is too young.

If you add up everything that requires greatness (stats, clutchness, value to a team, dominant, championships, all-around player), then you can probably say, yes, Kobe is the best NBA player right now. You can make a good argument for Shaq because of his championships, but he's fallen off considerably. Duncan?? He's got a great case to be the best. But Kobe can do it all. He can put up the assists (when he gains the trust of his supporting cast), he can rebound, he plays great defense, we all know he can score, he's the most clutch player in the game (and one of the best of all time), and he has 3 championships to go along with all that. Lebron?? No championships (yet). 'Melo?? No championships. D-Wade?? He's got one, but he's still behind. Sure he played with Shaq, and it certainly helped his cause. But nobody, from what I've seen, likes to point out that M.J. played with a Hall of Famer and was coached by a Hall of Famer before he won those championships. Don't take away from Kobe's accomplishments. He's the best of the best right now.....

well actually Michael Jordan is the best of our time!
but as of right now, yeah Kobe is the best not only in the NBA but in the world!!! I'm sick of people saying that LeBron is better than Kobe because it's unfair! LeBron hasn't done anything yet! of course he's gonna grab more rebounds then Kobe, he's got 2 inches on him and has way longer arms! what do you expect from a 6'8'' guy!? kobe can do it all and yeah he is the BEST!!!!

wud it be stupid to say the obvious?
if u're jst askin about who is best ACTIVE NBA player, then id go wit the two-time MVP Steve Nash.
he might not be a shooter like kobe or lebron or d-wade...
but if his team needs some points, he can give it to them.
he's the playmaker and he can do EVERYTHING except defense of course.
he's nt perfect.

If the game was a 1-on-1 game then i'd probably say yes in most cases. But since it is a team sport, I'd say no. He is such an arrogant, me-first type of player, that he actually makes his team worse.
