8lbs2oz - demerol made me vomit, which I am phobic afraid of
9lbs4oz - gas, na waste of time
10lbs4oz - morphine, gave me weird visions and nightmares for 24hrs,
(yes he really was that big, to this day he is a huge kid)
9lbs6oz - no transition, very little pain, no time for meds
8lbs - no meds, no time, very painful, even so

Every labour is different, some I took the drugs, some I didn't, visualization is incredible helpful, look at pictures of a cervix stretching over a babies head, and see that happening, relax into that vision. Warm water on your belly in labour is a very relaxing thing, always seemed to hasten the end for me.

My son weight 8lbs 8oz. I had a epidural not just because of labor but because I had ripped muscles in my back and side from where I got so big in my stomach ( the only place where I gained weight )which made labor even more painful. I also had an emergency C-Section due the cord being around my sons neck and him nearly dying so I had morphine for 24 hours after the surgery then I was on loracets after that but only took them for a couple of days..

1st baby- A boy was 7lb10oz a week late, I was in labour for 12 hours and had just gas and air.

2nd baby - A boy was 7lb 4 oz on time, labour was just 5 hours and had no pain relief just a nice warm bath.

3rd baby - A girl was 7lb14oz. 2 days late had to have a c-section as she was breech, so had a spinal and had morphine after for the pain.

1st one. Used pethidine, made me sleepy and the baby sleepy. He weighed 8lb 12 half oz. Needed about 8 stitches. Felt very sick for hours later, which I was told was due to pethidine.

2nd one. Used NO pain relief. He weighed 6lb 7oz. Needed forceps. It was like someone driving a bus at 40 miles an hour down my vagina. It was painful but I lived.

3rd one. Used gas and air. He weighed 7lb 15oz. He shot out like a rocket in a couple of pushes. Didnt need stiched that time.

4th one. Used gas and air. He weighed 9lb 2oz. Didnt need stitched that time either!

My first daughter was 8lb 12 1/2 and I had pethadine, gas and air and an epidural. I had to be induced, waters broken, had synatocin (sp?) to speed things up and had to have an episiotomy.

My second daughter was 8lb 5 and was born naturally in a birthing pool.

What a difference!

I've had four.
8lbs - induced, no pain relief - not recommended as oxytocin drip increases pain considerably;
7lbs 10 ozs/ no pain relief/ no drip/ good birth;
8lbs 8 ozs/ home birth, no pain relief, great midwife /able to move around in labour/ good experience;
9lb 10 ozs/hospital birth,good midwife,some gas at the end as baby big - gas definitely made it easier and put me in control of pain relief.
Hope this helps - don't listen to too many birth stories as each experience is unique and things can be exaggerated and scare you out of your wits unnecessarily. Good luck,keep calm, you'll be fine.

I had a c-section because I am disabled (easier on everyone), but i suppose if I had wanted to try naturally I could have tried. But in my first visit to the doc, I told him I had no desire to push a watermelon through a garden hose. They wouldn't give you meds if it was harmful to you or the baby, I LOVED my epidurel!!!
My baby was 4 weeks early and 5 pounds 12 ounces. C-section babies are very pretty, no squished heads, but do have more congestion, which is usually squeezed out through the birth canal.

she was 7lb8oz had an epidural (and I was the 1 in 1000 where the epidural had absolutely no effect whatsoever) so the nurse gave me (without consent) a needle of diamorphone. I should not have been able to feel anything. I wanted to do it natural but my back felt like it was going to split in two and I was hurting. anyhoo I could still feel everything and after all those painkillers I still knew when I needed to push and it was not when the nurses were telling me to

Boy weighing 7lb4oz, girl weighing 7lb2oz. My wife had water births for both and had no pain relief because the water dulls the sensations (apparently). I've got to say that being there for both births was the most fantastic moments of my life.
