Who should pay?

I'm white, but My ansestors where not in the country at the time of slaves...

My hispanic looking Portugese friend, decendent of...? Traders...But wait? Is she ethnic or not?

Should white decendants of endentured servants have to pay?

What about recent Affrican immigrants, do they collect or do they pay?

What about if they come from an area that Sold slaves to the U.S.?

But their children are disadvantaged just by being "black in America"... surely they should be compensated...

Even if they are direct decendants of Opressors?

Tricky Tricky.

No. I do support affirmative action(not permanently). Who are we repaying? Do we start with Native Americans, African Americans? Who pays? Most whites in the country got here after slavery ended. Do they pay? Do Hispanics pay? Don't tell me you're going to make the Asian Americans pay when they don't even get help in college. bad idea. Imagine if the Irish asked the British for reparations. middle finger Do I pay? My family fought with North. My grandmother's family got here recently from West Russia? Do I pay 3/4s for that. (Yes, I know I said East Russia before. accident) If you want to get really picky I have some Native American in me. No, I do not check the box that says Native American, because I have blue eyes and white features and that's how people treat me. Where do you draw the line. Yes, there is racism. But, is there not also sexism. And you are a woman right.

Ummm....my father came over from Latvia in 1903. My mother's parent cam over from Belarus in the late 1800's. I do not personally think I am responsible for reparations. My family was not even here during the Civil War.

No but they are already getting reparations, in the form of afirmative action.
The only other thing I would support would be a one way plane ticket to the motherland.

I support reparations. I think all slave-owners should pay money to people who were slaves.

Wait? They're all dead?

That settles that one pretty easily.

It's waaaaay too late for reparation. No one that suffered through slavery in the US is alive today. AND no one who caused it is alive today. So why make people who weren't responsible pay money to people who never suffered???

On my mother's side there were 144 men who fought in the Civil war, many died and all came from the North where there was no slavery, should I have too pay for what others did and my family fought against?

I believe in equal rights absolutely, but I don't try to collect my great great grandparents' debts. My family wasn't in this country prior to the civil war anyway.
