Hi, I am 15 years old, I first got my period almost 4 years ago. For about the first 2 years it only came a few times, then for the 3rd year it came pretty regularly, but now it hasn't come in 2 months. I am completely a virgin, but last month I got my first boyfriend, I want to ask my mom to take me to the doctor because of my period problems, I don't know if I should be on birth control or what, but I don't want my mother to think that I want to the birth control also to become sexually active with my boyfriend, which I have no current plans of. Should I go see a doctor, or is this normal? How long should I wait before I see a doctor? Thanks!

Hi if you have told your mum that they have been irregular that all the whilst you have had your period they have been all over the place. Then she should understand. I would just say to your mum you want to make a doctors appointment because of your periods being all over the place she doesnt need to know you havent come on for 2 months. Dont mention anything to your mum about birth control, your doctor may recommend birthcontrol but not before he has done tests. As you have had periods they should of sorted them selves out by now.but it has been known for periods to stop and then start in another few years. Just dont worry thats what mums are there for. If your periods have stopped going on birth control pills wont make them come back, they are to reduce heavy bleeding and to reduce period pain and pms in women who suffer it badly. Make an appoinment as soon as you can as i said they should of settled down by now.

A lot of times people do start birth control to regulate their period, which is totally normal. If you have an open relationship with your mom, then just let her know why you want to get on birth control, or maybe even have the conversation with your doctor and mom together...that may help her to understand where you are coming from and that you are serious about it.

well the absince of a period is called amenorrhoea, it usually comes from dietary or athletic problems. Like anorexics and gymnasts.

I would go see a doctor, they will probably want to give you a female exam( Im like the opposite Im having too many periods, what I basically got from the doctor was if your having any female problems they want you to see the doctor that does those exams) 2 months does seem excessivly long without a period.

I haven't had my period in about three months. The cause is I have an over-active thyroid. Get it checked out as soon as possible.
