...when you already found ALL their songs available for download from the net?

.. all their songs are available for download from the net?

I only listen to my Ipod. I don't listen to the audio CD itself. Should I have one, I'd rip the contents to my pc and listen from the pc instead. So my point is.. I don't need the CD at all.
If I bought the CD, I'd go thru the same process.

So if you were me, would you still buy the CD or be a pirate?

personally, I would buy it. If the artist is really your favorite, then you'd want to show your support for them by going to their shows and buying their merchandise. At the end of the day, the artist has to make money to put food on the table, or more on to a different career, which means your favorite artist won't be making any new music for you to listen to.

If you don't need the CD at all, you can buy the tracks for your iPod from the iTunes Music Store or something similar.

though I do have to add (to correct an earlier statement made by another user) that when you buy the CD from, only a small percentage of the purchase goes to the artist. the rest goes to the store, distributors, record labels, etc. etc.

No need to buy the CD. If you have the songs in your itunes library. you can burn your own cd. it is a good idea to have a cd say if you cannot use the ipod in the car, etc. But how you still have to pay for the songs you buy. Otherwise, how do you get them for free off the internet?

I do it because I'm old - no, seriously - I'm a relic from the day when albums were big black vinyl circles a foot across & came in a cardboard cover with AMAZING artwork & loads of information - you had a real sense of owning something then, a solid artifact with its own context, not just the disembodied content - I also rip, but when I do I get the sense not that I'm cheating my favorite artists (although in a sense I am), but that I'm cheating myself

I'd still buy them to support my favorite artists. Besides, what if the MP3 player breaks? Then all of your music is gone. CDs are more durable.
