Check out the Small Business Administration Home Business Hotlist - http://www.sba.gov/hotlist/home.html...

"Want to "be your own boss," "work from home," or just "make extra money"? Then you may be tempted by an ad for a business opportunity. Before you open your checkbook, check out the offer. Fraudulent business opportunity promoters use the classifieds and the Internet to tout all kinds of offers, from pay phone and vending machine routes to work-at-home businesses like medical billing and envelope stuffing. Too often, these ads make promises - about earnings, locations, merchandise, or marketability - that sound great, but aren't truthful. The result: consumers are getting ripped off, losing money instead of making it." http://www.ftc.gov/bizopps/

Look into telecommuting jobs which are very hard to come by but do exist. Usually they are posted on Craigslist and of course you have to make sure they are legit, places that as you for money are usually not legit!!!

Freelance writing is also something that can be done if you have strong writing skills. You can write anything from term papers top product reviews. Check sites like Craigslist for writing gigs.

Ebay is also a great business for people who have the time and energy it takes to be successful at it. Also try the less popular yahoo auctions. You can sell things on Amazon as well or open up your own online store through Yahoo.

You can offer services, find ideas for home based businesses at sites like http://www.entreprenuer.com and http://www.powerhomebiz.com

If you can dedicate a phone line and remove background noise then at home call center representative is another option there are legitimate companies that I know of who hire people for these types of jobs.

Mystery shopping is a also a good option, you can pick and choose which assignments you will take and work it around your day but never pay to mystery shop, there are hundreds of legitimate mystery shopping companies with jobs all over the country, Canada and the UK. It's good in terms of flexibility and freedom, good writing and observation skills are a must.

Good luck

You can do online surveys, but they are time consuming as heck and don't pay much. You can clean out your house and try selling some stuff on eBay and see how that goes. It's pretty hard to build something from nothing, so not investing anything at all makes it hard to build a business.
