Actually it is English, not english, and it is important, not inportant. That alone should be an example of why English is important in life. It is the basis of communication orally and in writing. A good and CORRECT knowledge of the language will allow one to express his/her ideas effectively.

The ability to speak English is important in "life" for many reasons:

1. It is a relatively easy language to learn (only 26 letters in the alphabet)

2. It is a good choice for communication in business as there are not often misunderstandings (unlike with the Chinese language which is based on a set of 4 tones so words are spelt the same but mean different things depending on how they are said)

3. Many countries around the world have English speaking inhabitants so it is a good language to learn for travel purposes.

4. It is very similar to the "romance" languages, such as French and Spanish making easier to learn those languages, as well as easier to be understood by people in those places.

5. Although there are many words in the English language, most of them mean the same thing, so you can get by with a very small vocabulary and still make yourself understood.
