v usually stands for video card, also called a graphics card, follow your monitors data lead and it plugs into the back of your computer. Open up your computer and look at the other side of the plug. If it seems to go straight into the motherboard you have on board graphics. If it seems to plug into the thin edge of a circuit board then you have a graphics card. You next need to identify your motherboard and locate a user manual (on the Internet). This will tell you what type of graphics card can be used (PCI, AGP 4x, AGP 8x) and also if on board graphics can be switched off allowing the use of a graphics card.
