yeah i have no idea about this... well a few weeks ago i found my old compaq computer in the attic and i wanted to hook it up to the internet. so i got it all pluged in, modem and all but it wont let me on to the internet! when ever i go to modem settings it says i have the OLD modem in but i dont..the computer or the internet on the computer is set up for dial up(which we never had) my dad said that he remebers switching it when we first got the computer to dsl or w.e is NOT dial up.. how do i switch it so it works?

Firstly make sure the modem is installed correctly with the correct drivers, no yellow excalmation marks appear in the device manager. You can use the Create a connection to the Internet wizard or you can try and tap into the modem directly via Internet Explorer > Tools > Internet Options and the Connections tab

u need to to do a winsock reset.....look around in google on how to do this
