I bought a PCG-FRV31 Vaio from Best Buy about 3 years ago. It still works and is a charm. The only issue is that it gets pretty warm.

I think it depends on the features of the Sony VAIO. If you have lower GHz then, it will be slow and if you have lower RAM then, it could only load so much. I think Sony VAIO is great when it comes to graphics but, it all depends I guess. Make sure you insure it because mine VAIO is breaking on me now after I downloaded too many stuff. It's freezing up and takes years too open up a window.

I have a sony vaio had this for 3years, had no trouble with it except i find the battery life is quite poor especially if you are working the internet. Otherwise i think they are a great machine, i copy dvds, watch dvds, download music and burn to disc. I really do not have any other problems. Would actually buy another one if i had the money to update it.

I would buy one myself, with the only minor reservations being; the touch pad is the awful 'Alps' type instaed of the superior 'Synaptics'. They need time spent removing all the cruddy software and pointless spam/toolbars/offers that they are so 'generously' bundled with. (Including Norton 3 month trial, 3 minutes is quite enough!)
They are also partitioned C: & D: by default, though this is true of other brands, like Acer for example.
Apart from those fairly trivial points, they look the biz, they're quick, and the X-black twin lamp TFT screen is the dogs b0llocks.

well I had one till i gave it away after being kicked out by the wife. but
pros
name brand may have a higher resale value if you decide to get rid of it later down the road.
and Sony's website has a lot of updates like drivers and things
cons
i only had one problem with mine and that was when i played DVDs on it the picture was grainy and no matter how hard sony tried to troubleshoot the problem they couldn't find out why.
but they did try to help
another con though is you can get a computer of equally quality for usually a lot less. hope that helps a lil

My Brother has owned 4 Vaio's since their inception. I have fixed and kept them running.
1. They are expensive, you pay for the brand.
2. Bloated with software you don't need or want
3. Always have stabilty issues therefore I get to see each one regularly.
4. Support sucks, CS is zilch and newer sony's don't ship with recovery discs...you have to create your own.
5. You could get cheaper and better unbranded
6. They always die from overheating - see recent news with recall on Dell and apple powerbooks...both have Sony batteries.
7. They don't travel well - even with claims that they are robust etc.
Finally Brother saw sense after me spending 7 yrs fixing his Vaio's
and replacements.
He got a Mac...and I haven't had his Mac in for repair or sorting for 18 months of him owning it.!!

The Good: Water proof, efficient, long-time battery powered. The Bad: Expensive.

Cosmetically they look good.
Can’t upgrade them (disappearing ram), they are expensive to fix, and the security system allows for all sorts of issues to occur.
Try Acer, IBM, or Toshiba

I'm using one right now! If you're gonna get one then get the newer version. This 2001 version sucks. I don't reccomend it though! It's slow and get stuck easily sometimes.
