I have heard/read that Cal State Fullerton is not a particularly good school overall, but I am wondering if anyone has any direct knowledge of their MA Counseling program. Is it a good program?

California has a three tiered public college system. At the top rung is the 10-campus University of California system (of which UCLA and Cal Berkeley are a part.) Then comes the Cal States. Finally are the community colleges.

Fullerton is one of the stronger Cal State campuses in Southern California. But, because it is not a UC, it doesn't get much credit. However, the UC system is much more focused on granting Ph.D.'s than M.A.s.

So, if you are going after your MFT license, Cal State Fullerton is a good (and inexpensive) option. If the purpose of your MA is to prepare for a Ph.D. program, you would be better off at a "better" school.
