I wouldn't mention anything until she does. Be as gentle as possible and ask her questions when she opens the door for it. Like, what was the best thing about seeing your grandma? What special things did you do with her? Things like that make all the difference in the world to a kid. Just be patient with her and if she doesn't mention it, I wouldn't. But be sure to offer her mother your condolences as well.

Why would it be impolite? Just tell her you feel sorry for her loss. Just don't ask if the old bag was rich and you could use a raise in your babysitting pay. Now that would be improper.

Tell her your sorry. That way she will know that you care about her family. IT is never impolite to ask if someone needs help after a loss

Dear lostinblue212
You should talk to her mother freely. Everyone feels shocked when life of someone we knows ends abruptely. As a teenager, it may be even more shocking for you, But as her mother has more experience of life, she will better understand the situation you are going through.

It's true at a time like this you really don't know what to say. But just simply, tell her that your praying for her and her family and be there for the family as much as you can, as far as babysitting

You might not want to say anything, even more so if she is happy and 'doing ok'. You don't need to bring up the bad thought. If she is sad and unhappy, then feel free to say your sorry. And if she is open to the idea, share grandma stories....

If you tell her you are sorry you might make her feel sad and upset. You can see if she says anything to you and go from there.
