There are two different types of amnesia - short term and long term. Amneisa is memory loss and can be caused by a number of things, a bad experience, a head injury, etc. Short term memory loss means that the person will not be able to remember things that happen within 10-15 minutes. They'll remember their parents, and people that have been engrained into their lives, but they might ask you what just happened? Or ask things over and over again. Long term amnesia is where they forget everything. Even who they are. Both can be reversible, however it's the brain's defense mechanism. It shuts down and doesn't allow these things to be remembered a lot of the time for a reason. I work as an RN and I mostly see patients with amnesia who have been through a very traumatic event.

amnesia is a partial or, in rare cases, a complete loss of memory. Everyone forgets minor daily incidents as time goes by, but a person with amnesia has large gaps in memory. People who suffer from amnesia lose the ability to recall past or recent experiences.

I had amnesia twice before. It is when you can't remember major things like your birthday, your name, who your parents are, etc. It happened to me when I got a level 3 concussion. Amnesia is when you have "empty" spaces in your memory where information once was. It takes a while to get over, but in most cases, the person will eventually return to their normal self.
