I have been having constant contractions for 3 days now, they started off like 30 mins apart worked down to 7 mins apart they weren't changing my cervix so doc gave me something to help me rest, slowed them down, later they started back up like 25-30 mins apart worked all the way to 8 mins apart went to doc again and she checked me said I was 2 and was in early stage of labor. she stripped my membranes and said i would probally be at the hospitail later that night, well she was right my contractions not only got closer but stronger also. they were 4-5 mins apart and very painful about 3am went to hospitail thought is was time, get in there and the nurse says that i am not in labor at all. Sends me home and still hurting I don't know what to say or think. Anyone know what is happening

I was having contractions that were like every 7 minutes apart and had been having them for 2 and a half days and I went to my DR and he admitted me that night and told me he was going to give me something to meke me rest since I had been having contractions for 2 days and then the next morning he gave me something to to speed things along and I had my baby and he is now 10 days old. This made my 4th baby and with everyone of them there was always one nurse I couldnt stand it is not the nurses place to send you home she isnt a DR I would call my DR or if you have to call the hospital ask to speak to the DR oncall even if it is still going to be a while before the baby actually comes they can give you some for the pain were you can relax a little. Congratulations and Good Luck!!!!!

Sometimes women go through braxton hicks contractions, they feel real but never get to 2 or less min. apart. if the cervix is not dilating they will often send you home.

BUT------------

If your doctor broke your water then you need to deliver soon. You should have asked for the doctor when the nurse said you needed to go home. If you are still having contractions close together about 2-5 min. go back to the hospital if necessary go to the emergency room of another hospital and explain what your doc did and how many days you have been having contractions.

My first delivery I never dilated! and had been in hard labor for 36 1/2 hrs before I got a c-section. If you are near or past your due date your concerns need to be heard! either see your doc or go to another hospital ER!

Nurses are not dumb, they're trained to send you back home if you're in early labor. There is no sense in you sitting in a hospital bed for another day while you're in early labor. There isn't anything the hospital can do for you, and it costs over $700 a night to stay in a hospital. Any OB nurse will tell you that once they get more frequent and more painful, then you need to come in. Or if your water breaks you need to come in.

If your contractions haven't changed since 3am, then you're still in early labor. It's 11:30am on the west coast, so that's 8.5 hours later. If you're on the east coast it'd be 11.5 hours later. Once they get more severe and more frequent then go in. If you haven't had a baby by now then she was justified in sending you home. An OB nurse deals with a LOT of pregnant women and babies, so I'm sure she'd know what she's talking about. You're just gonna have a long labor. =( Good luck honey, and just remember that it doesn't last forever.

Ive had my membranes stripped so far twice in this pregnancy once at 38 wks and 40 wks, each time they brought on braxton hicks and only got my hopes up. Im 41 wks going on 42 wks pregnant now and still getting lots of braxton hicks. If your contractions are staying about 5 mins apart and dont go away when you lay down on your left side and drink water then I would just go back. Stripping the membranes only helps get things going if your baby is ready already anyway, otherwise it just gets your hopes up. Everytime I think im in labor i go day down for a while on my left side and then they disappear confirming they were just braxton hicks. Real contractions stay regular and get stronger and stronger, they usually start in the back and work the way to the front and giving you shooting pains in your cervix.

Listen to the doctor... I've heard so many horror stories about nurses in the delivery room...

the doctor has much more knowledge about labor and delivery than the nurse does.

...contractions that are 4 to five minutes apart IS labor. It is the beginning of labor (so you're probably about 3 cm dilated) but it is still labor. Some women wait until they can not longer speak through contractions before going in. So, you will most likely be OKAY if you wait at home, but if they get any stronger, GO.

No offense to nurses, but the doctor has the call in this one. Call your doctor, he/she should be able to make a call to get you admitted. Also, you can go to the hospital and ask to see a doctor.

My wife has been pregnant 7 times (no comments please). We are fortunate to have an excellent nursing staff and doctors as well at the hospital. However the last time she was admitted, the nurse wanted to do an exam first. I quickly explained that this was here sixth delivery and that she progressed quickly. This helped the nurse quickly assess that we'd better move to the delivery room first.

Do NOT let the nurse simply dismiss you if this is your first time. You are the patient and have a right to care. Be insistent and persistent. Do not be a pain in the but and argue, but make sure that your care provider has adequately diagnosed you and explained their diagnosis. And feel free to ask for a second opinion (from a doctor in this case.)

For what you pay for health care, they had damn better well treat you with respect and dignity.

I don't know why you're asking this quetion here. First thing is first--- Call Your Doctor. Tell her what you told us and let her decide if she wants you in the hospital right now. If you can't talk through your contractions then it's definitely time to be at the hospital. But your DOCTOR should be the one helping you decide if you need to be there right now...not the nurse.

So go...make that call!

Oh! And Congratulations on your new baby!!! :-)

wow i was in labor this time this day last year. and it's my b-day today. my baby did not end up coming until the next weekend i was in labor for a week. you do need to call your Dr. she is not going to like the fact that a nurse second guessed her. and get your butt back to the hospital. i waited to long the next weekend because i did not want to get sent home again by the time i got to the hospital i was dilated to 9 . if i would have waited much longer i would have had her in my living room.
congrats .... god bless.

Go back to the hospital and see the doctor. Call your doctor and explain what is going on. Your doctor has seen you through the pregnancy, she would have a better idea.
