Band of Brothers...Great series and was brilliant how they had the actual people who were portrayed in the series talkling about their experiences.

Good oh, snorkers! (The Cruel Sea) - Can't beat those b&w British films. Although I have a sneaking regard for "Saving Private Ryan" and "Schindlers List" left me in tears. "The Battle Of Britain" is pretty close to the factual just a shame those German aircraft borrowed from Spain didn't have original engines.
The best factual series has to be "The World At War" - Entertaining, enlightening and in depth and Lawrence Olivers had a great voice for this kind of thing.
Incidentally I've just seen an original Star Trek episode, which is obviously a rip-off of another wartime pic, "The Enemy Below" starring Robert Mitchum and Curt Jurgens.

Either "The Longest Day," or "Tora! Tora! Tora!"... Two great films about monumental moments in the war, with great acting and superb research and accuracy... Recent films just can't seem to capture the feeling of the time like the older films do. I think we're too detached culturally from the events to be able to see them the way that actors and directors could, who had lived during and fought in the war. "Saving Private Ryan" was a good war movie, but the plot could have happened during Vietnam, too. "The Great Escape" and "A Bridge Too Far" were both good war movies, but too much artistic license was taken with the storytelling.

BTW, people, "Apocolypse Now", "Behind Enemy Lines", and "Black Hawk Down" were NOT about WWII..

Victory at Sea for the war with Japan, but I don't know what I would recommend for Europe. Definitely Victory at Sea for the Pacific, however... it's 16 hours long.
