Are you talking about an XR or XL 650 and an XR400?

If so, then the XR400 standard CDI actually has a more advanced spark curve than the 650 CDI - so if you could switch them, the 650 CDI will actually reduce the peak horsepower on the XR400.

Whilst it might fit, I can't see how it can make any difference to performance.
Its just a switch.
