It seems that eau de toilette is produced for both men and women? So how do you tell if a bottle of perfume is for men or women?

None of the above is gender-exclusive, the names only describe a way of manufactoring.

Eau de toilette is an acohol based scent, parfum is (mostly) made of essential oil extracts of plants, roughly you could say oilbased, much stronger and more expensive than Eau de toilette.

Eau de Cologne, or Cologne is an eau de toilette that follows a certain recipe first used in Cologne, based on lavender and lemon, with other ingredients that vary from brand to brand.

The only way of telling whether it's for men or women is to ask in the shop, or go by the packaging. If the box looks pink and fluffy , it's probably not meant for men.

Parfum, usually the most expensive of the set (about $300 per 1fl oz.) is just pure parfum, that's what it is. No water, nothing added. Eaude toilette, on the other hand, is a much cheaper version of the scent (usually costs like $80), has that same concentration of parfume only about 2/3 water. Now, the difference between cologne and eaude toilette toilette, is cologne is that the cologne is better than eaude toilette. Think of the eaude toilette as bathroom spray, Glade for example. Ok, there you have your answer.

The first 2 are diferentiated by concentration- parfum is way stronger and more expensive than diluted eau de toilette. Cologne is a name that some (mainly Americans) call mens fragrance.

Hi well eau de toilette is a a bottle with a spray, and you can tell its for men or women because it usually says, the name of the scent and then for men after it, and i think a bottle of purfume is for women in a bottle with out a spray and you just dab it on your wrist or neck and the cologne is the same as the perfume but with a mans fragrance in the bottle.

As far as I know Eau de toilette is a not so strong version of perfume. Parfum is the stronger smell of perfume. and Cologne is a place in Germany. hahaha

Eau de Toilette has been watered down so it's lighter bodied.

Parfum is typically for women and cologne is typically for men.

EdT can be for either sex.
